Well, anytime I hear Owl City I can't help but think lots of color and quirky selection of articles of clothing. Well, I decided to play with all the cool colors because the song is about seeing fireflies, and well, you only see them at night, so I played with the concept a wide array of blues and purples at the end of a sunset. A summer night kind of concept.

Inverted Playlist Challenge: Day Tripper - The Beatles
I woke up this morning and just had a spontaneous urge to listen to the Beatles. Beatles Beatles Beatles everything. Well, I felt like I had to do a Beatles-ey outfit to fit the occasion. The seventies came more in mind for me, primarily Across the Universe and their depiction of The Beatles music in that period of time. Day Tripper was probably before their hippie days, but I went with their later interpretation.

My favorites were probably Never Seen Blue Like That and Consider Me Gone, two songs which I was not crazy about at all ironically.

Music Playlist Challenge: Lightning Crashes - Live
I'm running to the ending of the playlist challenge...Can't seem to feel much inspiration for this song playlist anymore. But basically I just need to throw something on I wore a few weeks ago and take a picture and it will be completed. Lightning crashes is kind of a solemn peace, so I chose a solemn color combination.

Music Playlist Challenge: Uprising - Muse
hmmm, well. I definately thought this was a more rocker, but this picture makes me want to throw up in my hands. I was going for emo face and I ended up looking like crying....and let's not talk about what in the world my legs are doing. Either way it was not a flattering angle for them.
Anywho, inspiration for this one was pretty straightforward. Glam heavy rock. I freaking love Muse so I was more than happy to dress for this song.
And guess what bloggers, that leaves us with one...two left! I have tried Evacuate the Dancefloor multiple times but can't seem to get a picture out of it, and I tried Lightning Crashes, so I have fulfilled the 30 day limit but I am doing redos. So sorry but it's coming!

Music Playlist Challenge: Never Saw Blue Like That - Shawn Colvin
Don't go digging deep for interpretation, I just played on the title because frankly I don't really like slow country at all so I couldn't listen to it. I'm sorry if you like it, it's just personal preference, nothing against you. However, I really really liked this outfit and got loads of compliments today, so something good did come out of it. :P

Music playlist Challenge: Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles

Well, my inspiration was very straightforward this time around. I just pulled out my favorite parts of New Wave Eighties....and I indeed had a yellow shirt like the band. :P
This me getting all eighties on you, which does not happen much at all because I am mixed about that decade with fashion (as opposed to the 70s or the 20s haha). But it was fun trying it today, all guys responded to this outfit. One guyfriend of mine didn't recognize me. Two said they totally loved the whole outfit. And those two plus two more guys said they really liked the tie. Yeah, I would be a stylish man if I was a man, haha.

Music Playlist Challenge: I'm Just a Girl - No Doubt
Well, this time the first thing that came to my mind was "Gwen Stefani style!", seeing as she is the lead singer of No Doubt. Well, I didn't go with her sporty side, sorry, I chose her other side which includes the signature animal print, the mixing of prints, and you guessed it- red lipstick. It was a good day, got complimented today on my fashion bravery with putting two prints together. I also got called "Cruella Devil" because of my recent use of animal prints and pleather, but oh well, that's besides the point.

Music Playlist Challenge: I Dreamed a Dream - Les Miserables/Susan Boyle?
My sister reference I Dreamed a Dream to Susan Boyle, but I decided to stick to the original source. Well, I decided to go for a modern Les Miserables outfit, basically channeling Broadway French Civil War chic. :P Well, what better than knee high boots and a peasant top, eh? All the characters in this play aren't dressed all frilly like the Bourgeois so I kept it simple but vintagey. However, I Dreamed a Dream is a romantic airy song so I chose a light color palette and wore my heart pendant with a skirt to channel the soft romantic-ness of this part of the play.

Music Playlist Challenge: Consider Me Gone by Reba
Allow me to explain the reasoning of selection in clothes in accordance with the song:
Well, I decided that my old cowboy boots were certainly appropriate for this subject. I put a blue shirt on because the mood of the song is heart broken, sad, therefore blue being the appropriate color to express the mood. Reba is a bit twangy and I felt that brown was a appropriate color to coordinate with the blue-ness of the song. However, she does have a point in the song where she sounds a bit more optimistic where she throws in a hint of personality and determination to be happy regardless of a breakup with the line, "Consider me a smile in an old photograph someone who used to make you laugh." The scarf I am wearing is nostalgic in a way, my mother wore it in the 70s, what to me seems to be paradigmed as a happy sunny time.
Well, I had to go to campus for the day so later on I threw on some aviators and my new favorite jacket and laughed, because I felt like I made this outfit wayyy too Indie for Reba, but that was my honest effort to try to interpret her outfit. I guess you can't ever really escape your own taste. Hit next on the playlist then. :P

Inspiration Moment: 20's Silent Films

Concerning 20's Fashion:
"Various social trends were at work during the 1920s. Historians have characterized the decade as a time of frivolity, abundance and happy-go-lucky attitudes. Several years had passed since the end of World War I. People felt free-spirited and wanted to have fun. As a result, fashions became less formal...
The feminine liberation movement had a strong effect on women's fashions. Most importantly, the corset was discarded! For the first time in centuries, women's legs were seen. A more masculine look became popular, including flattened breasts and hips, and bobbed hair.
For women, face, figure, coiffure, posture and grooming became important fashion factors in addition to clothing. In particular, cosmetics became a major industry. Glamour was now an important fashion trend, due to the influence of the motion picture industry and the famous female movie stars.
During the early 1920s, waistlines were at the waist, but were loose and not fitted. Women wore suits with long hemlines and somewhat full skirts, often with belts at the waist of the jackets. Dress and suit bodices alike were worn loose, even baggy." (see About.com)
I suppose what caught my eye about a time that is almost a century ago is how beautiful, feminine, and soft these women looked, but at the same time, they look sophisticated yet whimsy. Anywho, see for yourself, as for me, it's a turn to a more feminine time, and I will be trying using curlers more to achieve their soft hair.

Runway Raving
(Clockwise from top left: Chloe FRTW08, next four from Louis Vuitton SRTW09, Zac Posen FRTW08, three from Chanel FRTW08)So I honestly am not a big fan of runways. Sure, that's where fashion "originates"; sure, it's an expression of art; sure, the design the clothes is amazing. Say all you want. I personally think that the models are scary looking (go eat a freaking pizza, for goodness sake) and that usually the clothes can look plainly odd or awkward on the model.
However, every so often I can find something sensational and motivating. So here's how I'm going to incorporate my inspirations:
Chanel: I will wear more feminine stuff - frills, lace, textured tights, lace robe coverings- only in a very classic manner and with a darker color pallate.
Chloe: Also a reinforcer of the edgy romantic, only with a floral scarf tied in a bow and a studded jacket to contrast. Also an encourager for texture. Not to mention I'm going to finally get that dark dark red lipstick I've been longing for so long.
Zac Posen: Old Hollywood Glamour, so therefore I've been curling my hair again, but trying every kind of curl: the sleek wave, the tight curler kind, the big wavy, you name it. Also dark red lipstick, and black lace. I will try to incorporate lady-like gloves in my outfits, and search for a classy trench coat.
And finally....
Louis Vuitton: Ahhh, a bit mind blowing. Bohemian jewelry!! So I need to get crafty and a bit bolder. Asian boho is totally up my alley. I'm getting quite fond of kimono-esque shirts and the exotic silk prints.
Till next collection season. :)

Style Horoscope
Yay for freaky coincidences!
GEMINI:
Geminis love to experiment with the latest trends, but you always add a signature twist that puts you ahead of the fashionista pack.
Layering is your sign’s specialty—the more contrast, the better. Pull dresses over leggings with long jackets and sweaters. Mix new pieces with vintage classics for a unique flair. Pile on a stack of necklaces and rings: you sparkle in costume jewelry like a funky gypsy
If you want to dress down, take a tip from signmate Angelina Jolie. A monochrome mix of black clothes can still be unique if you choose edgy cuts and unusual fabrics.
You love clothes with a great story behind them, like a bag you bargained down to a breathtaking price at a Moroccan souk or a beaded jacket your 90 year-old neighbor lady gifted you with. The more elaborate the background tale, the better, since your outfits tend to be real conversation pieces.
No need to break the bank on couture pieces. Spending a fortune on clothes simply isn’t worth your while since you bore too easily to keep a look going for long.

Inspiration Moment: Jimi Hendrix

Wikipedia says about Hendrix's style,
"Hendrix was well known for his unique sense of fashion and wardrobe and his Bob Dylan hairstyle. A set of hair curlers was one of the few possessions that traveled with him to England upon his discovery in 1966. When his first advance check arrived, Hendrix immediately took to the streets of London in search of clothing at famous shops like "I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet" and "Granny Takes A Trip", both of which specialised in vintage fashion, where he purchased at least two army dress uniform jackets, including an old Hussar's one adorned with tasseled ropes. A group of policeman once ordered him to remove a Royal Veterinary Corps dress jacket, saying it was an offense to the men who had worn it.
Many photographs of Hendrix show him wearing various scarves, rings, medallions, and brooches, and in the early days Hendrix occasionally wore badges (pins or buttons) that professed his support for the hippie movement or his fascination with Bob Dylan. He initially wore a dark suit and plain silk shirts that progressively became "louder" and more psychedelically patterned. He later favored a bright blue velvet suit, then a bright red one, antique military dress jackets, a very broadly striped suit, psychedelically patterned silk jackets, various exotic waistcoats and brightly coloured flared trousers. At Monterey, he wore a hand-painted silk jacket by Chris Jagger (Mick's brother) and a bright pink feather boa. In late 1967 he started to wear a wide-brimmed Western style hat (brand name "The Westerner")[100]. It was adorned with a narrow purple band and various brooches, as shown in the original Jimi Plays Monterey film. This hat was stolen in 1968, and replaced later with another, crowned variously with a longer purple scarf, a star-like brooch in front and a set of silver bangles, sometimes with an angled feather, though he went hatless for protracted periods after this.
From late 1968 he began tying scarves to one leg and one arm, and in mid-1969 he gave up the hat permanently for bandanas. He started wearing increasingly fantastic custom-made stage costume with long trailing sleeves, culminating in his African-styled "Fire Angel" outfit that he wore throughout most of his final "Cry Of Love" tour, until it began to come apart during the Isle Wight concert. He appeared in this outfit only once more (in just the jacket half) at the disastrous concert in Aarhus, Denmark. His only non-work-related vacation was a two-week trip to Morocco in July 1969 with friends Colette Mimram, Stella Benabou (Douglas), the ex-wife of Alan Douglas (record producer) and Deering Howe. Upon his return Hendrix decorated his Greenwich Village apartment with Moroccan objets d'art and fabrics. Mimram and Benabou created some of Hendrix's most memorable later attire, the shortened blue kimono-style jacket that he wore in three TV appearances and the white fringed jacket, ornamented with blue glass beads, he wore at the Woodstock Festival[101]."
